The Comparative Guide's view of Source Natural and USANA

Very impressed with the latest book by Dr. Michael Colgan: Sports Nutrition Guide - I purchased 4 copies.
I started taking supplements based on his Vitamin Profile book which was published about 30 years ago.

Joined the Life Extension Foundation www.lef.org  in Dec 2005.
$75 for 18 months includes a large excellent reference book and very extensive updates and references at their web site.

I also subscribe to www.consumerlab.com  It has a very extensive analysis of supplements and herbs,

You can search for items which have ALL of  several ingredients

Judy has had excellent success with decreasing lymphoedema with Ultra InflaZyme Forte from American Biologics for 5 years now.
The pills are expensive (about $7 a day) but very worth it.  Also has nightly lymph massage and daily exercise.
InflaZyme Forte
by American Biologics: (Pancreatin, Bromelain, Papin, Trypsin, Chymotrypsin, Rutin, Zinc, Superoxide Dismutase, Catalase, and L-Cysteine) was recommended by Lympehdemia organization.

Judy (along with millions of others) has had excellent success with decreasing traumatic and osteo arthritis with glucosamine, chondriatin, MSM and SAM-e.  These supplements do not just eliminate the pain, they heal the joints.

Judy's vision seems to be improving now that she is taking Lutein (6mg), and Zeaxanthin (258mcg)
- which has been proven to be of great help in preventing or reducing problems with macular degeneration and cataracts.

Judy also takes 5-HTP for depression and inositol (with choline) for anxiety. They have helped much more than counseling would have done.

Restless Leg Syndrome.  Noticed that one person with RLS purchased an RV that would fit a king-sized bed.
Many people with RLS, including Judy and Henry, have found that Iron supplements virtually eliminate RLS.

Henry is taking Saw Palmetto to reduce balding and reduce the possibility of prostate problems

Henry has found that 15 mg of Zinc eliminates tiredness after lovemaking (sperm has 1mg of Zinc) and long-distance biking (can lose up to 12mg of Zinc if sweat all-day long) - reference - Colgan's book pg 76+

D-Ribose has been extremely helpful to relieve soreness since we started taking it in 2007.  (Life Extension Magazine May 2007) D-Ribose is a very low cost supplement which helps replace ATP which is used for energy in the body. Look it up on the internet - many body-building sites talk about it. We can not live without it.  We take 1500 mg chewable tablets.  One tablet before exercise (biking or jogging in may case) and one after. An excellent short book on Ribose is: The Health Benefits of Ribose: The All-Natural Energy Booster. by Paul Addis, 2007, $5, 56 pages. [ it is one of 8,000 books on Amazon which has ribose] On the cover of the book: Congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease are just a few ... Page 2: "Ribose assists the body in maintaining a normal blood-sugar level and in controlling appetite and weight gain. ..perhaps the most remarkable benefit of ribose supplementation, one that you can notice almost immediately, is the protection it gives your muscles when you push yourself too far in physical work." page 3 "The body does make ribose from glucose but does so very slowly.". It seems to have no adverse effects even if you take 15,000 mg per day, and although it is sweet it contains no calories.

Vitamin K2 and a few other supplements are important for Stronger Bones to reduce osteroporosis as well as heal broken bones and teeth

Another product which body building sites recommend and I use is ZMA.

My formula for a healthy long life =  Daily Exercise + strength training (every 3 weeks) +Good food (organic when it is not too costly) + supplements + good emotions + social contacts + minimize fats and meats + no smoking.   (considering also increasing fasting & meditation and decreasing wine)

I really like to improve people's health.  Back 20 years ago (1985, long before the internet) I quit my job at Boeing to author and publish Reader's Guides to Health Improvement.   It was not successful, so I returned to Boeing.  Now that I am retired I spend many hours each day trying to improve health and prevent pre-mature death in people.

Tinnitus: After decades of searching I have finally found Bio-Ear by Natures Answer which virtually stops the ringing in my ear. Read about it in a Tinnitus book.  I put a few drops in my ear with a Q tip just before going to sleep.  It appears that the ringing goes away  for a longer time the longer I do the treatment. Treat for 2 nights and no ringing for the the following 2 days, = 4 days total.  Similarly, treat for 3 nights and no ringing for a total of 6 days.  Bio-Ear is a liquid herbal mix: Aloe vera, gentian root, Ginsing, bitter orange peel, dandelion root, etc. I will guess that the 0,5 oz bottle which costs about $10 will virtually eliminate Tinnitus for about 4 months.
